Creating for a space

You would like to build something yourself using Waytale. Awesome! The pages here will get you started.

Each of the tutorials below work independently from the others. While the described results build on each other (a space includes one or more maps, etc.), you can always draw from existing resources and focus on one specific part. In other words, creating a Waytale space can involve few or many steps, depending on much creative control you want to have or how much effort you want to put in.

Overview of assets in a space

There are a couple of different types of assets involved in a space. A Waytale space includes (among other things) maps in the Waytale format and a set of avatars. Waytale maps are generated from Tiled maps (maps created with the Tiled map editor). Tiled maps use one or more tilesets.

The following diagram shows how different the different types of assets relate to each other. Note that for simplicity a number of configuration files (e.g. space.json) are not included in the diagram.
