Waytale
Goals and values
Spatial orientation is something that comes very naturally to humans and spatial navigation is very intuitive. In contrast, when we work with websites or with people by means of the internet, then interaction is often not that intuitive or “spatialness” is often more an afterthought.
Waytale aims to provide a web-based medium with a spatial dimension where people can engage with other people, content, and interactive elements.
As such, Waytale is rooted in the following goals and values:
Usage
- Easy to access. No registration, no invite confirmation to meet. Forward link, say when you’re there, be there, done.
- Easy to use. A simple interface that works on any screen.
- Low tech. Still allow people with older hardware to use the software.
Technology
- Easy to set up. Little technical knowledge is needed to set up.
- Deploy anywhere. Minimal requirements for provision (static hosting) and cost (virtually free).
Creation
- Simple tools to create with. Provide simple tools and resources to get started creating quickly.
- Sophisticated tools to create with. Support advanced tools for greater artistic control and expression.
Social
- Empower people. Reclaim the internet by creating personal, fun, useful, or weird stuff.
- Local communities. Support small groups to create their own meeting spaces.
Freedom and independence
- Free to use. Free as in freedom and as in beer.
- Own your data. Store data in an online space you own and retain control over it.
- Decentralised. As much as possible be independent of centralised data control.
